CEO’s Blog

Last Tuesday I attended Community Action MK’s ‘Netwalking’ event. This provided a fantastic opportunity to meet with other people from the voluntary sector. We had a walk through Campbell Park and I had a valuable chat with a local Parish Councillor who shared with me photos of some of the fantastic creations  for the community he has made through his work with Med in Sheds.
Last week we held our first NHS Long Term Plan focus group as part of our ‘What Would You Do?’ campaign. The first focus group looked more broadly at how the local NHS should invest in the right support for the residents of Milton Keynes. We would like to thank all those who gave up their time to share their ideas and experiences with us. The second focus group, looking specifically at cancer services, is happening today. The final focus group, exploring mental health services in Milton Keynes, will take place next week. If you have had experience of Mental Health services in Milton Keynes, and want to share your views on what works well and what needs to be improved, please get in touch with us for more information, and to book your place. Booking is required as spaces are limited.
Experience of Care Week is taking place between Monday 22nd April and Friday 26th April. This is an opportunity to celebrate the work that is already happening to improve experiences of care, and to share new ideas about how patient experience can be improved. As part of Experience of Care Week, Healthwatch Milton Keynes will be holding a stall at Milton Keynes Hospital on Wednesday 24th April from 10am. This is a great opportunity to share your views on how the NHS Long Term Plan can be implemented at a local level.

Five ways that services can use complaints to make social care better

When people complain about poor care, it can be a real opportunity for services to listen and change.
Research by the Care Quality Commission has shown that 61% of those who raised a complaint did so to improve the care they or a loved one had received, and that more than half also wanted it to improve for everyone.
Click the link below to find out 5 ways services can use complaints to help bring about positive change.

Using complaints to bring about positive change

Healthwatch Milton Keynes have launched  new website Take a look at our new and improved website by clicking the link below.

You can use our website to share your story with us, find out about upcoming events, keep up to date with volunteering opportunities, and find Advice and Information about local services.
As is always the case with technology, we are experiencing some teething problems with the security certificate, which may affect your ability to open reports and share your experience with us online. If you have any problems, please get in touch, and we can send you our reports via email until the problem is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
If you are familiar with using the internet, you can resolve the problem by ensuring the website address says https:// at the start, instead of http://.
Please note that this problem does not affect your ability to fill in the NHS Long Term Plan survey, as this information goes straight to Healthwatch England’s website.

Support for people with learning disabilities and autism

1 in every 100 people in the UK is autistic, and around 60-70% of people who have an autistic spectrum condition will also have a learning disability.

As part of the NHS Long Term Plan, the NHS wants to help people with a learning disability or autism to live healthier lives by making services easier to use, investing in training, and offering more wellbeing support.

The public now have an opportunity to say what changes they want NHS services to make where they live. Local services will use the NHS Long Term Plan to inform improvements, so it’s vital that the public speak up about what’s needed for their communities.
Share your views on how support for people with learning difficulties and autism can be improved in Milton Keynes by filling in the survey below.
