Hi all,

What a glorious Monday it is for me here in Surrey. Hopefully you have sunshine where you are and I’m not hogging it all here!

There is always something about sunshine that makes people a little more happier. I think it’s just what we need as government guidelines change today.

Have a great week all, stay safe and keep hydrated.

Type 1 Panel – Final Panel

Whether type 1 diabetes has been part of your child’s life for a few weeks or a few years, we know it can be tricky to know when to take a step back and let your child take the lead. From carb counting by themselves, to going to their first sleepover, to moving out – there’s always something to think about.

Join the type 1 team for their Becoming More Independent - Virtual Q&A Session on Monday, 21 September at 7pm. You’ll meet five fabulous volunteers who all live with type 1 and have been through it all. You can ask them any questions you like, no matter how big or small.

Topic: Becoming more independent with type 1 diabetes

When: Monday, 21 September – 7-8.30pm

Panellists: Volunteers living with type 1, discussing their own experiences

The link to sign up to any of the panels is here:

Peer Support Group

Our wonderful Engagement Officer – Caroline Walker will be piloting a new online peer support group for those with type 1. Over the course of 6 weeks, you will attend a weekly 1 hour zoom session at 7pm to begin on October 6th.

You will find an attachment for more information and how to take part. Feel free to share with anybody you think would benefit. Help spread the word!

We do hope to run a type 2 group at a later date

Diabetes Friend – Volunteer Role

We are still looking for volunteers who would like to do something a little different and support DUK and those living with or caring for someone with diabetes – all from the safety of your own home. Volunteering in the usual way has been made hard this year and with isolation on the rise, this is the perfect role.

If you are interested in the role and are keen to know more, please see the attached role description and get in touch.

Improving Inpatient Care Programme

There is an exciting new opportunity for people with diabetes to work with DUK on our Improving Inpatient Care Programme. The Programme focusses on improving care and experiences of people with diabetes when they are in hospital; whether they’re in hospital because of their diabetes or not. Our goal is to make hospitals safe for people with diabetes across the UK.

We are looking for 1-2 people to become ‘Patient Lead Consultants’. Consultants will work with us for 12 weeks to review and plan how we can better collaborate with people with diabetes and how we can create change in hospitals. Details of how to apply can be found in the attached pdf.
