Milton Keynes Rose have some exciting events coming up at the MK Rose in the next few weeks.
2022 marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Jim Marshall OBE, the founder of Marshall Amplification and a name which is appended to so many of their voluntary organisations as a result of his philanthropy. On Tuesday, 5 April, the anniversary of his death, the present Marshalls management and their product demonstrator will be at the Rose at 10.30 a.m. All being well, they will be able to plug into the Jim Marshall pillar – the only pillar at the Rose with a built-in power supply – and then ‘turn the volume up to 11’. Ear plugs are recommended for the faint-hearted!
Friday, 29 April, is International Dance Day, and Milton Keynes Rose have a whole weekend of dance activity planned. During the day on Friday and Saturday, 29 and 30 April, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., local schools and dance groups will take part in workshops, demonstrating their dance moves and inviting the public to join in. Then each evening, from 7 p.m. a show bringing together local groups and professional dancers, and the thrills of parkour, will bring the Rose to life. The theme for the whole event is ‘Spring’.
On Sunday, 1 May – May Day – Milton Keynes Rose partners, the Parks Trust will bring their annual May Day celebration to the Rose with dancing, side shows, refreshments and, of course, the Maypole. The event runs from 12 noon to 3 pm.

Researchers working on a new treatment that could stop dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) developing into wet will reveal more detail about the drug next month.
Dr James Whiteford will be joining Macular Society My Macular and Me monthly webinar to explain more about the potential new treatment, which, if successful could offer a potential new treatment for patients who do not respond to current wet AMD injections.
Over the last three years Dr Whiteford and his team at Queen Mary University of London have been testing the safety of the drug which has been found to stop blood vessel growth at the back of the eye, as part of a Macular Society-funded project.
The team has proven in pre-clinical tests that a particular protein can inhibit the process by which new blood vessels form, and are now working towards human clinical trials.
You can hear the latest from Dr Whiteford about the potential new drug at our first My Macular and Me webinar of the month on Tuesday 19 April at 7pm.

Did you know where to turn for support when you were diagnosed with macular disease?
A new chatbot could offer timely, relevant information and advice to people with visual impairments.
Professor Chris Dickinson has been working on a year-long project at the University of Manchester, funded by the Macular Society, to design a digital ‘personal assistant’ to help promote the range of resources and services available to patients visiting eye clinics.
These services are not always promoted or discussed with patients and by creating a chatbot Professor Dickinson hopes all those with visual impairments will be able to access the help they need.
She will be discussing the project and its outcomes, at the first My Macular and Me webinar of the month, tomorrow at 7pm.
