Our services support the local community with practical support, information and advice on all aspects of living with a disability.
Help completing benefit forms
Benefit forms are complicated. We offer a free service to help complete your disability benefit forms. The type of benefits available include:
Personal Independent Payment
Disability Living Allowance (under 16)
Attendance Allowance (over 65)
Applying for and getting disability benefits allows you to access other support such as:
- Renting or buying a car from the Motability Scheme
- Exemption from paying vehicle tax
- Parking: A blue Badge allows you to park in Disabled bays
- Disabled persons bus pass or railcard

You can also access other support from Milton Keynes Council. If you are assessed as eligible for support by the Council, you can get
- direct payments
- disabled facilities grants for home adaptations you might need.
If you are working, you can apply for Access to Work funding for equipment or support you need to maintain work.
If you are on a low income, you may be able to claim Universal Credit.
VAT relief
If you are disabled, you do not pay VAT on certain goods or services designed or adapted for a disability e.g stair lifts or wheelchairs
Disability Information and Advice
All our advisors can support you. Our volunteer advisors have experience of living with a disability or long term health condition so are best placed to provide information, advice and support.
We can provide information and advice on a wide range of disability related subjects and general subjects including mobility, equipment, care, benefits, housing, leisure activities/holidays and social care procedures/pathways. It is a free service for people with disabilities of all ages, families, friends and carers. We can be contacted by phone, email, or simply drop in to see us between 10.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday.
We work closely with Citizens Advice to help with benefit issues and other complicated enquiries, e.g. legal and housing matters.
With your permission, we can contact Citizens Advice directly, should you need their advice on non disability related matters.
We offer information and advice on:
- Benefits
- Adapted equipment
- Blue Badges, motability and transport
- Accessible holidays and leisure
- Support groups and much more.
Meeting room hire
MKCIL have a number of meeting rooms you can hire at a reasonable price. All our rooms have complimentary wifi and in the main room you can have unlimited access to tea and coffee.
All proceeds from room hire supports our work supporting people with disabilities in Milton Keynes.

Equipment
- Disability Living Aids display. We have a range of equipment for you to practise with and try out. We do not sell this equipment but we can help you source a supplier. Equipment includes:
- Kitchen Gadgets
- Bathing and showering
- Dressing aids
- Seating
- Aids for people with a hearing impairment
- Aids for people with a visual impairment
We also have a demonstration stair lift for you to view or try.
Radar scheme toilet keys are available to buy for £3 from MKCIL. Please visit the office to purchase one.
We also have wheelchair weighing scales available to use free of charge. Simply drop in to use, no appointment is required.
MK Community Shop
MK Community Shop offers vintage and pre-loved items at reasonable prices. The shop is open 6 days a week and is run by a number of friendly and helpful volunteers.
All the proceeds from the shop are shared to a number of charities including MKCIL.
